February 10, 2008 Shirts vs. Blouses: Prince Actually Had Game
Who can forget the great comedy sketch from Dave Chapelle, Shirts vs Blouses? Well it turns out Prince aka Rogers Nelson actually had some game. The 5′ 2″ guard actually played on the Varsity Basketball team at Minneapolis Central High School (that’s him on the bottom right) . Check out the Fros on that team, with the fro Prince may have hit 6 foot. Rogers was so smooth that this is how he got the name Prince
“Prince was a darn good basketball player. The problem is he just didn’t grow.” His class had one of the best basketball teams in Minnesota history, and Prince couldn’t crack the giant-sized lineup despite great quickness and ball-handling skills. He walked almost unnoticed in the uniform of the day: An open shirt with large collars, maybe a pair of “baggies” over platform shoes, a “choker” around his neck. His hair was teased into an enormous dome that Buckminster Fuller would envy, and his upper lip wore a faint moustache.
He was so cool they started calling him “Prince Rogers”. The ironic thing about his High School days was that he was cool but so quiet that most people barely remember him. According to coaches and teachers he barely said a word all 4 years. They all said “You just didn’t want to look into his eyes” Maybe that was Jamie Foxx that said that
PS: Aren’t you half expecting Fletch to be in that photo on top?
